What is w3c and its significance to web design

What is W3C?
W3c or in other words wwwc stands for World Wide Web consortium.W3C what it basically does is provides a few web standards and guidelines that will help you overcome the problem that you might face with the incompatibility of the codes in different browsers that are used all across the world today.
The standards are mostly limited to guidelines but smarts wed designers would tend to pay more attention to what the organisations would have to say. Infact; there are many web designing jobs that can be found on freelancer job boards...but what they request is for the codes that would be used to build the site is W3C validated; that is how important it is.
History dated back to 1989:
Tim Berner Lee who is the inventor of the World wide Web ,he was the first to developed the first web browser. the consortium was created by the other pioneer industries in order to promote the standardization of the World Wide Web. Probably without these standardizations the internet would not turn out be a global medium today. A standard interface and a a standard data communication protocols required interoperability of different machines for the carriage of information. That is basically the mission of W3C in web desigining.
Role of W3C:
The main role of W3C is to publish the necessary standards so that all the computers can communicate in the same language and web browsers are able to render web pages so that they look alike and work in the same way. The Consortium also concentrates educating web designers and web developers, so that they will be able to work together to create their websites on the standardization of W3C.Which has been the main goal of W3C in web designing. That is exactly why someone who uses a Macintosh in China or Windows XP Canada can a access a webpage in South America .If the web page had been created using the validated HTML and CSS codes, the pages should look alike and the basic functionality of both should be the same regardless of what the operating system or the web browser is.
Summary:
As there has been this huge growth in the number of web browsers, the use of stanadrdized codes becomes absolutely essential. If you a use a non standard and non validated code that does not work, that would be considered to be your fault. but if you do use standard and validated codes but even then it does not work then it is bug in the browser. A public validator service is also offered by the W3C organisaion at http://validator.w3.org
